NHL Betting Predictions March 3 Senators Thrashers

The Blackhawks came up with an empty net goal last night to secure the puckline for us, which earned us a 0.6 unit profit on the games.  The Wild didn’t look great and I think they are starting to feel the loss of Koivu.  Tonight there are a lot of games once again, which means more opportunities for us to make a profit betting on the NHL.  I found one that I really like.  An underdog that has a very good chance to win and cash big.

Ottawa Senators @ Atlanta Thrashers

The Senators are basically an AHL team right now, but they are playing in front of a hot goaltender in Craig Anderson.  The players are giving it there all because these last twenty games or so are basically a tryout for the AHL players and the veteran NHLers also want to prove their worth after a bad season.  The Thrashers have lost 22 of their last 29 games and are quickly dropping out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.  They have lost six of their last seven games with the only win coming in overtime over a tired Maple Leafs team.  Chris Mason is in net tonight and he has not had a great season.  For some reason the Senators are big +155 underdogs tonight, and at this point I’m taking any underdogs against the Thrashers, plus the Sens haven’t been playing bad of late.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators +155 (Bookmaker.com)

FanDuel Predictions

Last night Toews and Reimer really came through for me and I’m planning to win another game of Fantasy Hockey at FanDuel tonight.

I like Bernier in goal for fairly cheap in front of a strong Kings team.

NHL Betting Predictions March 2

I wasn’t able to get a post up yesterday because I was busy with a couple midterms, but those are in the past and there are five NHL games tonight, which has provided enough options to find a couple strong lines for tonights games.

Calgary Flames @ Chicago Blackhawks

The Flames had a huge third period against the Blues last night scoring 5 goals to finish off a 6-0 win.  Thats the Flames second win in a row and they look to be for real after having a slow start to the season.  The Blackhawks are one of the few teams that you could say is hotter than the Flames at the moment.  The Blackhawks defeated the Wild 4-2 on Monday night in the second of back to back wins.  They have now won 5 games in a row and goaltender Corey Crawford, who will likely get the nod again tonight, has looked almost unbeatable at times.  Jonathan Toews was just named player of the month for February and this hot play has continued to add to his reputation of bringing his A-game when it matters most (Conn Smythe winner and Olympic MVP last season).  This is another very important game for the Blackhawks and I expect their top players to be firing on all cylinders.  The Flames should be a little bit tired from playing in St. Louis last night and I expect the Blackhawks speed and talent up front to be too much for the Flames come the third period.  I like the puckline in this one to get a bit more return on a big win for the Blackhawks.

My Pick: Chicago Blackhawks (-1.5) +165 (Sportsbook.com)

Minnesota Wild @ New York Islanders

The Wild travel to the Eastern Conference to take on the New York Islanders this evening.  The Isles lost a hard fought battle last night in overtime to the Washington Capitals, which brings their losing streak to four games.  The Islanders are a very streaky team and the fact that they are in this little skid after playing well of late should give the Wild a lot of confidence coming into tonight.  Add on the fact that the Islanders could be sluggish after playing a tight overtime game the night earlier and the Wild have a big edge.  Minnesota needs to win this game to keep their foot in the playoff door in the West and I expect them to win this game.  Backstrom is the confirmed starter for the Wild.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -130 (Bookmaker.com)

Fan Duel Predictions

I really like Toews to continue to produce.  He has 23 points in his last 14 games and putting him up the middle for $7500 shouldn’t be a bad move.  I also like surrounding him with Kane and Sharp because you know if he is putting up points those two won’t be far behind.  As far as a goaltender goes, I’m leaning towards Reimer (who is confirmed to start) because the Leafs are actually the favourites against the Pens tonight and you will save money, that you can put towards picking up these three Blackhawks.

NHL Betting Prediction Wild Blackhawks February 28

The main focus of the day is on the NHL trade deadline, but after all of that wraps up at 3pm EST there are still two games on tap this evening.  One of these games features the Minnesota Wild and the Chicago Blackhawks who are currently tied with 72 points in 62 games.  Needless to say this is a huge game for both teams.

Chicago Blackhawks @ Minnesota Wild

The Blackhawks won a hard fought battle in Phoenix last night coming away with a shootout win after giving up a 2 goal lead.  The fact that this is a back to back game for the Blackhawks leads me to believe Turco will get the nod in goal.  Turco has been subpar on the season going 11-11-3 with a .897 save percentage and a 3.08 GAA.  The Wild will look to take advantage of the fact that the Hawks are tired and are playing their backup goaltender.  The Wild are by no means in an ideal situation either, with their captain Mikko Koivu out with a broken finger.  That being said the Wild have found ways to get points in his absence going 3-1-1 since losing Koivu in the first period 5 games ago.  This should be a tight battle, but I expect fatigue to play a factor, which will give the Wild a slight edge in this one.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild +100 (Bookmaker.com)

NHL Betting Predictions February 25

We went 1 for 2 last night.  The Blackhawks were able to get a fairly easy 3-0 victory over the Preds, but the Kings showed they had enough in the tank in the third period beating the Wild 4-2.  Tonight there are once again plenty of games, and I have found two lines that I really like.

New Jersey Devils @ Tampa Bay Lightning

The Devils have been playing spirited hockey and Hedberg has been near unbeatable in recent games.  The Devils have gone 16-1-2 in their last 19 games and don’t look like they are planning to slow down anytime soon.  The Devils are actually almost back in the playoff hunt after winning only 10 games through the first half of the season.  The Lightning have been no slouches either after snapping the Coyotes big winning streak with a huge 9-3 victory over them a couple days ago.  The Devils are on too hot a streak right now to be stopped though.  And the fact that they are underdogs is still surprising.

My Pick: New Jersey Devils +110 (Bookmaker.com)

San Jose Sharks @ Calgary Flames

Both of these teams have been winning on command lately.  The Sharks are on a 5 game winning streak and have gone 14-2-1 in their last 17 games.  A lot of these wins have come on the road and tonight is another chance for the Sharks to extend their division lead in the tough Pacific.  The Flames have gone 11-2-2 in their last 15 and are coming off a loss at home to the Bruins (one of the NHL’s best road teams).  The Flames are right in the mix for the last few playoff spots in the West, but the Sharks have been just too good of late and I don’t see their winning streak being snapped.  Niemi has been hot and he is the confirmed starter for tonight.

My Pick: San Jose Sharks -115 (Bookmaker.com)

Fan Duel Picks

I like Dubnyk in goal for the Oilers at $5700.  I usually like to save money on backup ‘tenders that are confirmed to start.  The Oilers also play a struggling Blues team so he should get the win.  I think Kovalchuk will have a big game so I went with him as my big ticket guy, but he’s only $7200 because of his early season struggles.  Then I took Bobby Butler from the Sens for only $3400 (he has 5 goals in his last 5 games).

Check out Fan Duel fantasy hockey.  It’s a lot of fun and can be profitable if you do your research.

NHL Betting Predictions February 24

Last night the Sens and Anderson came through for us to get another win.  Tonight is a busy night and I like two lines from the games.

Chicago Blackhawks @ Nashville Predators

The Blackhawks have looked good in their last few games and are simply too good and too clutch of a team to not make this playoff push count.  This is a huge game for both teams, with Chicago being only 2 points out of the playoffs, with Nashville as one of those teams ahead.  The Preds dropped their last two games and I think the Blackhawks will come out with too much desire to let the Preds catch their rhythm.

My Pick: Chicago Blackhawks -110 (Bookmaker.com)

Minnesota Wild @ Los Angeles Kings

The Wild have continued to play spirited hockey without their captain Mikko Koivu, who has been out for a couple games with a broken finger.  In his absence the Wild were able to continue getting points earning 5 of a possible 6, with the only loss coming in a shootout to Detroit.  The Kings are back to their winning ways defeating the Ducks last night 3-2 in Anaheim.  This is a back to back game for the Kings who could be fatigued following that intense game.  Even still the Kings are pretty heavy favourites, which I don’t agree with.  I think this game could go either way, with a slight edge to the Wild.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild +135 (Bookmaker.com)

Fan Duel

Tonight I like Cory Schneider for $5100 in net for the Canucks vs the Blues and Jiri Hudler for $4700 against the Stars.

Panthers vs Senators NHL Betting Prediction February 23

Last night we ended up going 2-1 with Phoenix coming up with a big underdog win in OT to give us a night total of +1.37 units.  Tonight the NHL slows down a little bit, but there are quite a few teams playing their second of back to back games.  I’ve only found one line that I like and I will explain why I like it below.

Florida Panthers @ Ottawa Senators

Neither team has played well of late, but the play of Craig Anderson in the Senators game against the Leafs should lift the team.  Tonight they will want to return the favour to their goaltender and score some goals to help the team win.  Anderson should once again come out on top of his game and will be the better of the two goalies, as the Panthers are starting Clemmensen at the other end.  The Panthers are still somewhat in the playoff hunt, but they have lost 8 of their last 11 games and are quickly dropping out of the race.  The Senators have not performed well this season, but I expect them to bring their top game tonight against the struggling Panthers team.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators +100 (Bookmaker.com)

Fan Duel Likes Tonight

This is a new section where I will be selecting a couple players I will be picking for my Fan Duel fantasy NHL team this evening.  Fan Duel is a nightly fantasy hockey game that you play for real money against other opponents.  It’s a great idea that is sure to take off soon.

Last night I won a 5-player fantasy game that I entered, as well as a 1 v 1.  This success will hopefully continue last night.  (Bouchard did well for me last night)

I like:

Craig Anderson for $7700.  This is about an average price for a goaltender and I expect big things out of Anderson tonight against a Panthers team that finds it hard to score.
Devin Setoguchi for $5600.  Setoguchi has 5 goals and a +4 rating in his last 4 games.  The prices don’t change too often, so get this guy for a steal at $5600.

NHL Betting Predictions February 22

After going 2 for 2 on Friday we are back and ready for the loads of action scheduled for this Tuesday evening.  I’ve found 3 sharp bets, each of which is explained below.

Phoenix Coyotes @ Philadelphia Flyers

The Coyotes are on a 7 game winning streak heading into Philadelphia to take on the top ranked Eastern Conference Flyers.  Philadelphia is 7-5-2 against Western Conference teams this season and only 4 of the 15 teams in the East have winning records against the West, which shows which Conference is dominant.  The Coyotes have been playing great hockey and I expect them to bring their A game once again as they get set to face the Easts best.  Somehow the Coyotes are +160 underdogs after winning 7 straight.  This is an easy bet to make.

My Pick: Phoenix Coyotes +160 (Bookmaker.com)

New Jersey Devils @ Dallas Stars

The Devils are on a tear and have actually put themselves into a position where they will have an outside chance at making the playoffs if they keep this pace.  The Devils have won 7 in a row and are 9-0-1 in their last ten.  Hedberg has been unbelievable and he once again gets the start for the Devils tonight.  The Stars on the other hand have been plummetting out of the playoff picture in the West.  They have lost 4 straight and are 2-7-1 in the last ten.  Their leading scorer (Brad Richards) is still out with a head injury and the team doesn’t look the same as they did early in the season.

My Pick: New Jersey Devils -130 (Bookmaker.com)

Boston Bruins @ Calgary Flames

The Flames have not shown any signs of slowing down.  They are coming off an emotional win in the Heritage Classic on Sunday and they are 13-2-3 in their last 18 games!  The Flames are on fire and have put themselves into a playoff position in the West.  That being said they must continue to win in order to stay there.  Calgary has an 18-9-3 record at home and although the Bruins are very good on the road (18-7-4) I’m giving the edge to the Flames in this one because of their play of late.

My Pick: Calgary Flames +100 (Bookmaker.com)

On a somewhat related note I’m a huge fantasy sports fan and I was recently introduced to FanDuel, which is a program that allows you to play against other individuals online in daily or weekly pools for real money.  I’ve been having a lot of fun with it and have been building my bankroll for the past week.  Tonight I really like Al Montoya in goal for only $3200 and Matt Moulson coming off a hat trick for $6100.  Anybody who likes Fantasy Hockey, I definitely recommend Fan Duel.

Also I just created a facebook fan page.  I will be posting my picks there daily.  Visit the NHL Betting Tips facebook page and click the “Like” button to receive the daily picks to your facebook news feed!

NHL Betting Predictions February 18 – Devils and Wild to win

It was a tough night last night losing 3 games, but tonight I’m looking for a bounce back and I’m taking two games that I feel confident in.  Each are slight favourites, but I expect wins.

New York Rangers @ New Jersey Devils

The Devils have been on a tear of late and are showing no signs of slowing down.  They’ve won 5 in a row, Kovalchuk has been on a fire and Hedberg has been playing great in goal in the absence of Martin Brodeur.  New Jersey has allowed only 30 goals against in their last 16 games, which has been about their span of solid play.  The Rangers on the other hand are playing the second of back to back games tonight after holding off the Kings for a shootout victory last night.  The Devils are playing their best hockey of the year and it should be enough to win this game.

My Pick: New Jersey Devils -135 (Sportsbook.com)

Anaheim Ducks @ Minnesota Wild

This is a huge game in terms of the Western Conference playoff race.  The Ducks lost their last game, while the Wild lost their last two.  In the West you cannot afford to go on a losing streak of any consequence.  Anaheim has won their last 6 road games, which has improved their road record on the season to 15-3-3 (it was horrible in the early part of the season).  The Wild lost their last two games, but these were against top Western teams Vancouver and Chicago (with the Blackhawks game being the second of back to backs).  I expect the Wild to come out with all guns blazing tonight knowing that this game could very well decide their playoff fate even though it is only just over 2/3’s of the way through the season.  Hiller is hurt so it is likely that McElhinney will battle Niklas Backstrom in this one.  I’m giving the Wild an edge because I think they’ll keep the playoff picture tight.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -125 (Sportsbook.com)

NHL Betting Predictions February 17

Los Angeles Kings @ New York Rangers

The Kings are back to playing some of the best hockey in the league.  They started the season off great, followed by a long downward swing, but now they seem to be back having gone (8-0-2) in their last ten.  Even after that run they are still a point out of the playoffs in the Western Conference so they won’t be letting up anytime soon.  Doughty is finally playing like he did last year and the team as a whole is working together as a unit.  The Kings have only given up 16 goals in this 10 game span.  The Rangers on the other hand just broke a 6 game losing streak.  It is the second of back-to-backs for the Kings, but I think they should be able to find the energy to dig deep knowing that every point counts at this stage.

My Pick: LA Kings +110 (Bookmaker.com)

Boston Bruins @ New York Islanders

Boston has lost 3 in a row, the Islanders have won 4 straight, the Isles are at home, the Bruins are likely playing Rask, but yet the Islanders are +145 underdogs in this game.  That being said the Bruins are very good on the road this season, but the Islanders have been scoring on command of late (24 goals in last 4 games).  The Bruins on the other hand have been allowing goals on command (20 goals against in last 4 games).  This could be a high scoring affair, but I see the Islanders coming out on top and with these odds how can you not take them.

My Pick: New York Islanders +145 (Bookmaker.com)

Montreal Canadiens @ Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers beat the Dallas Stars a couple days ago, but the Stars are one of the worst in the NHL at the moment.  The Habs on the other hand have lost a couple shootout games and shutout Toronto recently.  The Habs will take this one and they aren’t even too big of favourites.

My Pick: Montreal Canadiens -130 (Bodog.com)

NHL Betting Predictions February 15

There are a lot of games that could go either way in the NHL tonight, with plenty of -110 lines, which implies that the teams are exactly even.  I actually agree with most of these and for this reason I’m just selecting a couple of games tonight that I think are the best bets.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins

This is the only game of the evening where a team is a heavy favourite, that being the Bruins in this one. The Bruins have lost two in a row and 3 of their last 4.  They were scored on 16 times in their last 3 games and need to buckle down defensively.  Thomas is starting in goal, which is a good thing for the team, but the Bruins are only 15-11-3 at home this season and have performed much better on the road.  The Leafs lost their last 2 games, but they haven’t looked too bad recently.  Not bad enough to deserve to be almost 2 to 1 underdogs in this one at least.

My Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs +170 (Bookmaker.com)

Vancouver Canucks @ Minnesota Wild

The Canucks are coming off a 3-2 loss in St. Louis last night, while the Wild are on a 3 game winning streak and haven’t played since Saturday.  The Canucks are starting Schneider in this one.  He’s been fairly good this season going 9-3-2, but he has lost 3 of his last 4 games.  The Wild are coming in strong with Niklas Backstrom who is 18-12-3 this season.  Minnesota is leading the season series 2-1 at the moment.  The Wild are very minor underdogs in this one, but the fact they are on a solid streak with lots of rest playing against a team on the second game of back to backs on the road leads me to believe the Wild should actually be slight favourites in this one.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -105 (Bodog.com)

We have been hitting a lot of winners over the past couple weeks and that should continue with a couple of big underdog victories tonight.  Sign up to the newsletter below to receive the game of the week pick when we feel there is one game that is almost a sure winner.
