NHL Betting Predictions December 20th

We went 2 for 2 on Saturday night, even though our exclusive pick did not pan out as expected.  Tonight I’m placing 2 more NHL wagers on a couple of minor favourites, check them out:

Atlanta Thrashers @ Toronto Maple Leafs

The Thrashers have shown no signs of slowing down having won 11 of their last 15 games and getting back on track with a 7-1 victory over New Jersey on Saturday after losing their previous 2 games.  Toronto on the other hand has slipped out of their mini streak with losses at the hands of Vancouver and Calgary in their last two games.  Pavelec is between the pipes for Atlanta tonight and he has been extremely good this season with a .944 save percentage and 1.76 GAA.  The Thrashers are only slight favourites because the game is being played in Toronto, but the Leafs are (8-6-3) at home this season, while the Thrashers are (8-5-3) on the road.

My Pick: Atlanta Thrashers -120 (Bookmaker.com)

Calgary Flames @ Minnesota Wild

The Flames and Wild play their second of back to back games, this time with the Wild hosting the Flames.  The Wild were able to pull out a 3-1 victory in Calgary and will look to string together two wins against a weak Flames team.  The Flames are (5-9-3) on the road this season, while the Wild are (7-7-2) at home.  Koivu had a huge game in these teams last meeting and teh Wild will look for him and Martin Havlat to lead the offense once again.  The goalie matchup is set as Kipprusoff vs Backstrom, so both teams are going with their number ones and this game is huge for each team, both of which are sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.  I expect the Wild to come out with the same determination they showed last game and handle the Flames who are weak on the road.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -115 (Sportsbook.com)

NHL Betting Predictions December 18

It’s another big Saturday in the NHL tonight and I just sent out our exclusive top pick of the night to our newsletter members.  Sign up via the form below if you’d like to receive the Saturday exclusive pick from here on out.  Tonight I’m placing two wagers, check them out:

Minnesota Wild @ Calgary Flames

The Wild and Flames are two of the bottom feeders in the Western Conference and both really need W’s in order to stay in the playoff race, even this early in the season.  The Wild lost to the Senators on Thursday, while the Flames lit up the Toronto Maple Leafs.  That being said, the Wild are a better team overall than the Flames and they should win this game at least 50% of the time even though they are on the road.  Nicklas Backstrom is back in net and he will be looking to play at his top level to prove to Todd Richards that he is their go to guy in all situation.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild +140 (Bookmaker.com)

Phoenix Coyotes @ New York Islanders

The Coyotes haven’t been playing well of late and the Islanders finally managed to score a win, beating the Ducks at home the other night, but the Islanders are still a very bad team and the Coyotes should have no trouble outplaying and just flat out dominating the Islanders tonight.  The Coyotes need a win to get back on track in the West playoff race and the Islanders are the perfect opportunity for this to happen.  The Islanders are trying out Nathan Lawson tonight in his first NHL game and we will see if he provides the spark the Islanders need.  In my opinion, he can not be the answer for this bad of a team.

My Pick: Phoenix Coyotes -150 (Bookmaker.com)

NHL Betting Predictions December 16

It’s another busy night in the NHL tonight with 18 teams in action, including the lowly Islanders who find it extremely difficult to win. I’m betting against them this evening and I have one other bet I will be making. Read below to find out more:

Anaheim Ducks @ New York Islanders

The Ducks are coming off of an overtime victory in Washington last night and will be playing the second of back to back games on Long Island.  That is strike one against the Ducks.  The Ducks also have (6-7-3) road record on the season.  Strike number 2.  There is a very strong possibility that McElhinney starts tonight to give Hiller a break.  Strike 3.  Teemu Selanne is injured.  Strike 4.  All of these strikes against the Ducks are the only reason they are only slight favourites tonight over the lowly Islanders.

The Isles have won once in their last 21 games.  That is downright brutal.  So even with all of these strikes against the Ducks, I’m still picking them to win tonights game.

My Pick: Anaheim Ducks -125 (Bookmaker.com)

Ottawa Senators @ Minnesota Wild

The Sens have been brutal of late, and they now begin a short road trip to the Western Conference, which is a place that Eastern teams have trouble getting wins.  The Senators are (5-8-1) on the road this season and Leclaire is in goal trying to improve his (3-7-1) record on the season.  The Wild on the other hand are (7-6-2) at home this season and are starting Jose Theodore who is (4-4-1) on the season.  The Senators have won only 2 of their last 8 games and they will be in tough to find a W tonight.  Each of these teams are attempting to stay within striking distance of a playoff game and this should be a hard fought battle tonight.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -135 (Bodog.com)

NHL Betting Predictions December 15

It’s a busy night in the NHL this evening with 11 games on tap, and I have found 2 very sharp bets that I will be making this evening.

Boston Bruins @ Buffalo Sabres

The Bruins (9-3-1) on the road this season are in Buffalo to take on the Sabres who have a  (6-9-1) home record this season.  The Bruins have been an above average team throughout the year and they have continued to look good of late.  The Sabres on the other hand began the season tanking their first 15 games or so, and have now begun to play more like an average team winning games, but still not playing to their potential.  The Sabres lost their last home game, which was on Saturday night, to the streaking Penguins, but prior to that they had won their last 3 homestands.  I expect a tight game tonight, but the Bruins are the better team and they should win this game the majority of the time.

My Pick: Boston Bruins -105 (Bookmaker.com)

Phoenix Coyotes @ New Jersey Devils

The Coyotes, who are (8-4-2) on the road this season are in the thick of the tight Western Conference playoff race.  The Devils on the other hand, are the second worst team in the league and are (4-7-2) at home this season.  With these records and the teams displayed skill throughout this season it is very surprising that this is a pick’em game in the eyes of the oddsmakers.  Brodeur is confirmed to start for the Devils and Bryzgalov is expected to be in goal for the Coyotes.  That being said the Devils are (0-2) since Brodeur’s return and their problems are much deeper than a stellar goaltending performance can overcome.  The Coyotes speed will be too much for the Devils and they will win this game handily.

My Pick: Phoenix Coyotes -110 (Bookmaker.com)

The free picks record on the year is 37-44 for -10.20 units.  Not a great record, but our exclusive Saturday pick record is much better.  Sign up below to receive our top pick every Saturday directly to your email.

NHL Betting Predictions December 13

We split the games from Saturday night, but won our exclusive Saturday pick when the Thrashers were able to hold off the Islanders on Long Island.  Here is tonights one play:

Atlanta Thrashers @ Ottawa Senators

The Thrashers have been on a tear of late, (8-2-0) in their last ten games, which includes a couple of wins in their last two away games.  Pavelec has been playing very well with a .944 save percentage and a 1.79 GAA on the season.  He will be up against Brian Elliott of the Senators tonight, who is back in net after Leclaire defeated the New Jersey Devils on Friday.  Elliott didn’t play well his last outting, but he is normally very good coming off a game that Leclaire played, with 3 shutouts out of 5 games.  I expect him to be back at his best tonight and to lead the Senators to win.

The Sens are currently 7 points back of the Thrashers for 8th in the Eastern Conference and each game is becoming increasingly important if the Senators look to be in the playoff race come later in the season.  Alfredsson, Spezza and Kovalev are still not putting up the points needed for the Senators, and they will need this to turn around very soon.  Byfuglien and Ladd have continued their strong play throughout the season and have shown just how deep that Blackhawks Stanley Cup winning team was, by coming to a new team, becoming the best players and the captain and assistant, after being 3rd liners on Chicago.  Ottawa will need to shut these 2 down tonight in order to win the game.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators -120 (Bookmaker.com)

The NHL Betting Tips free predictions record on the season is (37-43) for -9.20 units.  Our exclusive pick record for Saturday nights is now (3-2).  Sign up for the newsletter below in order to receive these free picks weekly.

NHL Betting Predictions December 11

Another big night in the NHL tonight, like most Saturday evenings.  I’ve already sent out the exclusive pick for tonight that I’m very confident in.  Sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of this post to receive our exclusive top Saturday picks from now on.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Buffalo Sabres

The Penguins are on an 11 game winning streak, which I don’t see ending tonight.  Sidney Crosby has been rolling and playing the best hockey of his career.  He is seperating himself from other players in the “best player in hockey” talks and will look to continue his streak tonight.  The Sabres have been getting better results of late, but they are still out of the playoffs and still haven’t impressed me with their play.  The Penguins are just too hot right now and I’m very suprised that they are not the favourites in this game.

My Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins -110 (Bookmaker.com)

Montreal Canadiens @ Toronto Maple Leafs

The Habs lost last night to Detroit and there is still no word on whether Carey Price will get the nod in net.  These reasons, along with the fact that the Habs are playing an away game are why the Habs are not favourites in this game against the lowly Toronto Maple Leafs.  The Leafs have been allowing far too many goals of late, and although they have had some impressive third period comebacks, they cannot expect to win games after spotting their opponents 3 or 4 goals early.  The Canadiens, led by Tomas Plekanec, should still have enough in the tank tonight to defeat the Maple Leafs who continue to prove that Brian Burke is not the great GM that he led everyone to believe with this work in Anaheim and Vancouver.

My Pick: Montreal Canadiens -110 (Bookmaker.com)

The NHL Betting Tips free predictions record is (36-42) for -9.11 units.  We will look to improve this tonight.

NHL Betting Predictions December 9

Andrew Raycroft ended up getting the start last night after Lehtonen felt tightness during the day, which definitely did not help the chances of our under bet yesterday.  That being said, I’ve taken two moneyline wagers tonight, check out the reasoning below.

San Jose Sharks @ Buffalo Sabres

The San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres are each starting to find their games after slow starts to the season.  San Jose is (7-5-2) on the road this season, while the Sabres are (5-8-1) at home.  San Jose pulled out a tight shootout win over a strong Flyers team last night, but they will have to dig deep to find the energy needed to skate with the Sabres in this second of back to back games.  The Sharks are on a bit of a run however, defeating the Red Wings and Flyers, two of the leagues best teams.  The Sabres have started to win games, but they are still a fairly average team and because the Sharks are the underdogs in this game I’m choosing them to win.  The Sharks will win this game more often than not.

My Pick: San Jose Sharks +115 (Sportsbook.com)

New York Rangers @ Ottawa Senators

The Rangers and Senators are in action tonight in Ottawa, just four days after the Senators defeated the Rangers 3-1 in New York, thanks to a hat trick by Chris Kelly.  Tonight the Senators have confirmed that Brian Elliott will start, which should give the team a much needed boost.  In games Elliott has returned after Leclaire was in net, the goaltender is (3-1-0) with three shutouts (the 1 loss came in a 1-0 shootout loss to the Sabres.  These are very good numbers and I expect Elliott to be at his best tonight.  The Senators have been having a tough time scoring of late and really need Spezza (3 points in last 14 games) and Alfredsson (pointless in last 8 games) to pick up the slack offensively and start putting a few goals on the board.  If the Senators can get a goal out of either of these players their chances of winning are much improved.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators -115 (Bookmaker.com)

The NHL Betting Tips free prediction record on the year is (36-40) for -7.11 units.

NHL Betting Predictions December 8

There are five NHL games on tap tonight, and although all of the moneylines seem very accurate to me, I did find one over/under line that I’m going to jump on.

Dallas Stars @ Chicago Blackhawks

Kari Lehtonen and Corey Crawford are the confirmed starters for tonights game in Chicago.  Lehtonen is (13-7-2) this season with a 2.59 GAA.  He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his last 7 games.  Corey Crawford is (7-4-0) on the season with a 2.34 GAA.  He has only given up more than 3 goals once this season.

Seven of Dallas’ last 8 games have had less than 6 goal totals.  Chicago had under 5.5 games 3 of their last 5, but they are often in high scoring games, which is why the oddsmakers feel there is an equal chance of an over or under game tonight.  This is the first game between these squads this season, so each will be testing each other out at first without taking a lot of chances.  Each team will respect each other and this should result in a low scoring game.

My Pick: Under 5.5 -110 (Bookmaker.com)

The NHL Betting Tips free predictions record is (36-39) on the season for -6.11 units.  We’ll look to begin turning this around tonight.

Dallas Stars Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Betting Prediction Dec 6

There were no sharp bets to be found last night and tonight I can only spot one.

Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets

The Stars are on an incredible 6 game winning streak at the moment, which includes 3 road victories over some very strong teams.  Dallas has found ways to win close games of late with 5 of these 6 wins coming by the slim margin of 1 goal.  Tonight the Stars are in Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets whose recent 5 game winning streak has given way to a 5 game losing skid in which they have been defeated by some very large margins.

The Blue Jackets lost to the Penguins 7-2 on Saturday and the Sabres 5-0 on Friday.  They have not been playing solid Blue Jackets defensive hockey and this will need to change tonight if Columbus hopes to keep players like Richards, Eriksson and Ribeiro off the scoreboard.  Even though the teams are on opposite ends of 5 game streaks, the Blue Jackets are still the favourites in this game, likely due to their formidable 8-3 home record on the season.  That being said I still expect each streak to continue with Dallas putting another win on the board tonight.

My Pick: Dallas Stars +105 (Bookmaker.com)

The Penguins win on Saturday improved the NHL Betting record to (36-38) for -5.11 units.

Pittsburgh Penguins Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Betting Prediction Dec 4

I just sent out the exclusive NHL pick for this week, so if you are signed up to the NHL Betting Tips newsletter check your email inbox.  If you aren’t signed up for the newsletter enter your name and email at the bottom of this post to recieve next weeks top Saturday pick.  I have one other pick tonight, which was my second favourite pick on the evening:

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Columbus Blue Jackets

The Penguins have been on an incredible roll lately with an 8 game winning streak and earning 21 of a possible 22 points over their last 11 games.  Sidney Crosby has been simply unstoppable and has jumped to the top of league in points with 44 and goals with 21 (tied with Stamkos).  The Penguins did not play last night and they will be looking to continue this streak against a tired and defeated Columbus Blue Jackets team.  The Jackets lost 5-0 in Buffalo last night and then travelled home to host the Pens this evening.  The Blue Jackets have lost their last 4 games and may be beginning to play as the team that everyone expected at the start of the season.

The Penguins should be able to continue their roll in Columbus and Crosby should add to his scoring leads this evening.

My Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins -125 (Bookmaker.com)

The NHL Betting Tips free prediction record is now (35-38) for -5.91 units.  The exclusive newsletter record is (2-1) and should add another W to the column tonight.
