The Hurricanes came back to give us a win in that game, but the Sharks were unable to find a way past Jonathan Quick, with that game ending 1-0 for LA.
Season Record: 34-61 for -30.52 units.
Ottawa Senators @ Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets blew a 2 goal lead last night in Carolina and have now lost 2 games since their amazing winning streak. The Sens on the other hand have not played since noon on Saturday and although they got beat by Carolina convincingly, many of those goals were a direct result of Robin Lehner not having a great game. The Sens know this is close to a must win game and I expect them to be on top of Columbus all night.
Play: Senators 1.99 (5Dimes)
Carolina Hurricanes @ Montreal Canadiens
The Hurricanes did play last night, but they found a way to win over a strong Blue Jackets team coming back from 2 goals down. That makes it 4 wins in a row for the surging Hurricanes, who head to Montreal to face a struggling Montreal team. The Canadiens have scored only 2 goals in their last 3 games and have dropped out of the top 3 in the Atlantic division. Carolina is two points back of the Canadiens right now and cannot let up if they hope to make the post season.
Play: Hurricanes 2.38 (5Dimes)
New Jersey Devils @ St. Louis Blues
The Devils embarrassed the Blues 7-1 in their last meeting. You can be sure that St. Louis will be looking to exact some revenge tonight. This game is in St. Louis where they are 18-5-2 this year, while the Devils are 10-13-5 on the road. I don’t see this game being close with the Blues not letting up to make up for their embarrassing loss to the Devils just a little while back. Take the Blues puck line.
Play: Blues (-1.5) 2.50 (5Dimes)
Friday finished 1 and 1 with the Preds blowing a late 2 goal lead in Calgary and losing in a shootout. That leaves the season record at 33-60 for -30.35 units.
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Blue Jackets finally lost a game on Saturday, and the Sabres of all teams were the ones to end the Blue Jackets streak. The Blue Jackets now head down to Carolina to play another team pushing for a playoff position in the Metropolitan division. The Hurricanes have won 3 in a row, including a big 6-3 victory over the Senators on Saturday. The ‘Canes are clicking right now and the Blue Jackets may have a lull after having their winning streak snapped. I like the Canes as small favourites tonight.
Play: Hurricanes 1.833 (5Dimes)
LA Kings @ San Jose Sharks
The Kings and Sharks are going in opposite directions right now. The Kings have lost 4 straight, while the Sharks have won 6 in a row. The Kings have also not won in San Jose in their last 9 attempts. I like the Sharks to win this one and keep both streaks alive. Thornton and Marleau are playing well after signing their extensions with the teams. The two combined for the 3 goals in their 3-2 win over the Wild on Saturday. Take the Sharks.
Play: Sharks 1.704 (5Dimes)
Took yesterday off after a tough Wednesday that saw both my picks lose. There are still 5 big games in the NHL tonight though so plenty to choose from.
Season record: 32-59 for -30.30 units.
Montreal Canadiens @ Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are coming off a huge win over the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. They have dropped out of the playoffs and haven’t been playing their best hockey of late. That said the big win over Chicago might start a fire under them, as they know this is a crucial time in the season if they want to make the playoffs. The Canadiens have been sliding lately as well, losing 4 of their last 6 with their 2 wins coming in overtime. I like the Red Wings to win tonight and close the gap in the Atlantic Division.
Play: Red Wings 1.952 (5Dimes)
Nashville Predators @ Calgary Flames
The Flames beat the Coyotes the other night, which resulted in a loss for me. They couldn’t possibly win 2 in a row right? I have absolutely no faith in the Flames this season and even though the Preds played last night in Vancouver they should be up for this one. After winning against the Canucks the Preds are now 8 points back of the Wild for the last playoff spot in the West. The Predators must know that these Western Canada games against the Flames and Oilers (the two worst teams in the Conference) are almost must wins. Playoff teams cannot give up points to the bottom teams in the league and this is a great opportunity for Nashville to gain some ground.
Play: Predators 1.952 (5Dimes)
The comeback was successful last night with me going 2 for 3 on my picks. The Blues were destroyed by the Devils, which was a big surprise, but this was my only loss of the night, which ended 2-1 for +1.68 units.
Season record: 32-57 for -28.30 units.
Chicago Blackhawks @ Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings have struggled of late and this has shown in the standings as they’ve dropped out of a playoff spot with several other teams near them having strong January’s. The Blackhawks also haven’t quite been their dominant selves this month, but they are still an overall far better team than the Red Wings. This is a big rivalry game and I expect the Blackhawks to bring their A-game and find the intensity to defeat the Red Wings on the road. The Blackhawks are coming off a big 3-2 win over the Bruins back on Sunday, so they should be fresh in this one.
Play: Blackhawks 1.69 (5Dimes)
Phoenix Coyotes @ Calgary Flames
The Coyotes have not been great of late and have also dropped in the standings. They are now at a spot where they need to start stringing some wins together in order to stay in the race into the latter part of the season. Lucky for them the Calgary Flames are on the schedule tonight. The Flames, in my opinion, are the worst team in the league. They have won 7 of 24 games at home this season and have only won 2 of their last 13 games. Even though the Coyotes are in a slump this is the perfect time to turn it around.
Play: Coyotes 1.80 (5Dimes)
It’s once again been a while since I’ve added posts here at NHL Betting Tips. I just moved last week and ended up not having internet for a few days before heading on a ski trip for the weekend. I’m back now though and all settled in with my internet working, so I should be able to get daily picks up for the rest of the season.
The season record now sits at 30-56 for -29.98 units.
Ottawa Senators @ Washington Capitals
The Senators are coming off of a couple losses, but they haven’t played well in any of their matinee games this year, which was their 4-1 loss to the Rangers on Saturday and before that they had not lost in regulation in 8 games. The Sens are turning their season around, but they need another strong road trip starting in Washington. I think the Senators will be able to shut down Alexander Ovechkin on offense and find away to take advantage of his line in the defensive zone tonight.
Play: Senators 1.99 (BetOnline.ag)
New York Islanders @ New York Rangers
The Islanders are a better team than they’ve shown this season and they are starting to play to their potential having gone 7-3-0 in their last 10. The Rangers are also playing well having gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 and having won 3 straight, but the Rangers have not been as strong at home this season as on the road. The Islanders have almost the same road record as the Rangers home record and I think with them being such big underdogs they are a great bet in this game.
Play: Islanders 2.69 (5Dimes)
St. Louis Blues @ New Jersey Devils
The Blues are a much stronger team than the Devils and that should show through tonight in New Jersey. The Blues won 4-1 last night in Detroit, but being a young team who brings it every night I don’t expect fatigue to be a factor in this one. In fact the Blues would be bigger favourites if they didn’t play last night, so you can get a better return because of this fact.
Play: Blues 1.794 (5Dimes)
I went 1 and 1 in my first day back making NHL picks, with the Flyers coming out on top as expected, but the Blackhawks losing late to the Rangers took away all of our potential profit. The season record now sits at 28-54 for -29.35 units. Check out the NHL wild card standings just over half way to see how the teams stack up right now.
Dallas Stars @ New Jersey Devils
The Stars are on a three game losing streak, but I still think they are the better team in this scenario and they have had a few games to think about their embarrassing 7-3 loss to the Islanders. I expect a bounce back game against the Devils, who in my opinion are over performing to this point in the season.
Play: Stars 2.11 (BetOnline)
Florida Panthers @ Buffalo Sabres
The battle of the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference. Both of these teams have won 5 of their last 10 though, and the Sabres actually haven’t been quite as horrible at home as they have been normally this season posting a 9-12-2 record. The Panthers have only won a third of their road games this season, so I’m taking the Sabres as underdogs at home in this one.
Play: Sabres 2.13 (5Dimes)
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Maple Leafs are absolutely horrible right now. I’m surprised that Carlyle hasn’t been fired yet. The Hurricanes are on a bit of a tear winning 4 in a row and hosting the Maple Leafs who are 7-8-4 on the road this season and have been playing bad hockey over the past month should get them to 5.
Play: Hurricanes 1.80 (SportsInteraction)
St. Louis Blues @ Calgary Flames
The Flames have been shut out in 4 of their last 6 games and the Blues have given up the third fewest goals in the league this year. I think it will be very difficult for the Flames to find the back of the net in this one, and likely not that difficult for the Blues to do the same.
Play: Blues 1.57 (5Dimes)
It’s been a while since my last predictions post and that is because I was in Las Vegas for the past couple of weeks. My friend and I hit up UFC 168 and followed that up by participating in the World Series of Beer Pong, so there obviously wasn’t enough time to get up tips posts. I’m back now and have no trips planned for the foreseeable future, so I should be able to get back into the site right through until the Stanley Cup Champion is crowned.
The season record is 27-53 for -29.26 units.
There are only three games on the schedule tonight and I’m going to keep my first post back fairly quick and pick 2 games tonight.
Montreal Canadiens @ Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have been on a tear of late winning 8 of their last 10 games. This team got off to a horrible start, but they have since turned it around and now actually sit 2nd in the Metropolitan division, behind only the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers have a solid 11-7-0 home record and even though they played last night the confidence they have right now will be enough to get them past a Montreal team that has been fairly average of late.
Play: Flyers 1.909 (5Dimes)
New York Rangers @ Chicago Blackhawks
The Rangers are simply not that good of a team in my opinion. They head to Chicago to play the best team in the league and a team coming off a tough 3-2 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks back on Sunday night. The Blackhawks haven’t lost in regulation in their past 10 games, but I don’t expect this game to go to overtime. The Blackhawks should be able to overwhelm the Rangers in this one and win by a significant margin.
Play: Blackhawks 1.571 (5Dimes)
This is just not my year for NHL betting. I lost another 3 units last night, which brings my season record to 26-50 for -27.31 units.
Anaheim Ducks @ New Jersey Devils
The Ducks have not been the same team on the road this year. They are 11-7-3 on the road this season. Both teams have been playing very well of late, but the Devils have an edge for me playing at home and because they are slight dogs in this one.
Play: Devils 2.10 (BetOnline)
Washington Capitals @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Caps have gone back to scoring a lot of goals this year, but Ovechkin is still probably the teams worst even strength player. Luckily he makes up for it by scoring some big power play goals at clutch times in games. I don’t expect Ovechkin to have to pull of any heroics tonight though, as the Caps should be able to outplay Carolina.
Play: Capitals 2.05 (BetOnline)
Florida Panthers @ Winnipeg Jets
The Panthers are on a 5 game winning streak at the moment. They just beat the Senators in Ottawa last night and will look to make it 6 wins in a row in Winnipeg. The Jets haven’t been great at home this year with a 7-8-4 record and I expect the surging Panthers to dig deep and find the energy to win tonight.
Play: Panthers 2.36 (5Dimes)
Vancouver Canucks @ Chicago Blackhawks
The Canucks dropped a game last night in Dallas, and now they head to Chicago to play the best team in the league. These teams do not like each other having played some big time playoff series over the past several years. The Blackhawks are big favourites, but rightfully so. They get a tired Vancouver team tonight and Chicago has been continuing to play some great hockey. I like the Blackhawks in this one.
Play: Blackhawks 1.588 (5Dimes)
The Sens let me down last night, and the Pens almost did the same blowing a 3-1 lead in the third period before pulling out the win in the shootout. So basically a break even night for me last night, which takes the season record to 26-47 for -24.31 units. Plenty of games in the NHL like a usual Thursday…
Minnesota Wild @ Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins just played last night and luckily snuck out a win in New York after being up 3-1. Tonight they face a much stronger challenger in the Minnesota Wild and they are still a very depleted team. They have still won 5 in a row, but they can only play at this level without some key pieces for so long. The Wild have also won 2 in a row and are in the thick of the playoff race in the West. I think they will pull this out against a possibly fatigued Penguins team.
Play: Wild 2.25 (5Dimes)
Phoenix Coyotes @ Toronto Maple Leafs
I will take pretty much anyone over the Maple Leafs right now and the Coyotes are a strong team. Yes they’ve lost their last two games, but they are an above average team from the Western Conference, which pretty much spells trouble for the Maple Leafs. I like the Coyotes to keep the Maple Leafs struggles alive tonight.
Play: Coyotes 1.893 (5Dimes)
Vancouver Canucks @ Dallas Stars
The Canucks are 8-1-1 in their last ten and have been playing some very good hockey. They did just drop an OT loss in Minnesota a couple nights ago, but they should be able to bounce back in Dallas. This is a big game with the Canucks still trying to jump into the top 3 spots in the Pacific division, which is extremely tough this year with 3 of the top 5 teams in the league. I expect the Canucks to take it to the Stars in this one and come out with the victory.
Play: Canucks 1.901 (5Dimes)
In unrelated news the NFL is down to two weeks left in the regular season. It’s almost time to bet on the Super Bowl online before the playoffs start to ensure you get a big payout. With Aaron Rodgers likely set to come back and the Packers playoff fate in their own hands I like the Packers as a long shot Super Bowl winner this year.
I haven’t got picks up since the 12th, when I went 1 for 3. The season record now sits at 25-46 for -24.36 units. There are two games in the NHL tonight and I have plays for both of them.
Ottawa Senators @ New Jersey Devils
The Sens had a solid performance at home against the tough St. Louis Blues on Monday night. They will look to build on that tonight in New Jersey in another big game. Robin Lehner gets the nod again for the Sens and he has been excellent this season. I like the Senators to try to string two wins together for the first time in a month in Jersey tonight.
Play: Senators 2.15 (5Dimes)
Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers
The Penguins are riddled with injuries and suspensions right now, but they have still been finding ways to win games. I expect more of the same tonight with them at Madison Square Garden tonight to face a Rangers team that is just 6-9-1 at home this season. It’s usually Crosby that is hurt when the Penguins have to step up. This time Crosby is in the lineup so it’s important for him to show that the team can still win when he is healthy and some of their other key pieces are hurt.
Play: Penguins 2.05 (5Dimes)
In other news the NFL playoff picture is starting to shape up with only 2 games left in the regular season. If you are interested in Super Bowl betting, the time is now to start thinking about what team you will be backing to win the big game. Right now I’m leaning towards the Patriots with some solid odds.
