NHL Betting Odds and Free Picks November 9

After two slow days in the NHL and no sharp bets to be found I have two for you today.

Washington Capitals -130 (Bookmaker.com)
New York Rangers +110 (Bookmaker.com)

After only one days rest for both teams the Washington Capitals travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers who have surprised most people by managing to get wins and stay in the playoff picture with key injuries to Marian Gaborik, Chris Drury and Vaclav Prospal.

The Rangers haven’t been good at home this season (2-4-1) and even though they have put up some wins they have been struggling to score without Gaborik.  The Rangers have recorded just 8 goals in their last 5 games and they will need more than a couple goals to outscore the high powered offense of the Capitals.  Lundqvist has been standing on his head and he will need another incredible performance to give the Rangers a chance.

The Capitals are back to their winning ways riding a 4 game winning streak.  Most of these wins have come at home and the Capitals have been average on the road so far this season with a (3-3-0) record.  The Capitals offense has been on fire on their current road trip with 20 goals in four games.  If the Capitals can continue their offensive dominance the Rangers have no hope of keeping up.  The Capitals aren’t even that big of favourites in this one because of their mediocre road record.  That being said they will definitely win this game more than 57% of the time.

My Pick: Washington Capitals -130

Calgary Flames (+1.5) -255 (Bookmaker.com)
Colorado Avalanche (-1.5) +215 (TheSportsbook.com)

I do not believe the Flames to be a good team and they have proven me right of late losing their last 4 games.  Five of the 7 games the Flames have lost this season have been by two or more goals with the only two exceptions coming in their two most recent games, which they lost 2-1 to Detroit and Minnesota.  The Flames are (2-3-0) on the road this season and this is an important game for them to turn their season around.

The Avalanche (7-5-1) are (3-3-0) at home this season and currently lead the league in goals for per game with 3.38.  The Avs have been on fire offensively of late and have won 2 of their last 3 home games by more than 2 goals.  Chris Stewart, Milan Hejduk, Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene are all producing well offensively and they won’t let up if they get a few goals early.  The Avalanche only need to cover the spread 32% of the time for this wager to be profitable.

My Pick: Colorado Avalanche +215

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions November 6

It’s a busy night in the NHL with 24 teams in action tonight.  Of these 12 games I found 3 bets that I like.  Check out our NHL betting odds page for odds from each of the NHL matchups tonight.

Ottawa Senators +100 (Bookmaker.com)
Montreal Canadiens -120 (Bookmaker.com)

The Senators travel a couple hours to Montreal tonight to take on the Habs.  The Sens have been playing very well of late winning 4 of their last 5 games after a rough start to the season. Montreal has had a strong start to the season and Carey Price has continued to play well throughout the season and it looks like his problems playing in front of the home fans may be a thing of the past.

Montreal has already defeated Ottawa twice this season, but the Sens are a different team now.  Brian Elliot has been stellar in net and his team is playing with confidence in front of him.  After slow and mistake filled starts to the season offensive d-men Erik Karlsson and Sergei Gonchar have started scoring lately and have not been liabilities defensively.  The Senators will still feel they have something to prove against the Canadiens and this mixed with the fact the Habs played a tight game last night on the road in Buffalo leads me to take the Senators winning this one the majority of the time.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators +100

Philadelphia Flyers -150 (Bookmaker.com)
New York Islanders +135 (TheSportsbook.com)

The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders are opposite teams at this point in the season.  The Flyers are flying high riding a 5 game winning streak, while the Islanders are skidding to the basement of the East after losing 6 straight.  Neither team played last night so the players should be fresh.  The Islanders will be happy to be home after failing to record a point on their recent 3 game road trip.  The team allowed 17 goals against in this span and keeping the goals against down against the Flyers tonight will be a key to victory for New York.  The Flyers are tearing it up lately and I expect this to continue in New York.  The Flyers have to win this game more than 60% of the time for a -150 bet on them to be profitable and I see them taking this game nearly every time.

My Pick: Philadelphia Flyers -150

Tampa Bay Lightning +125 (Bookmaker.com)
San Jose Sharks -145 (Bookmaker.com)

This is one of the more interesting games of the night.  The Lightning (7-3-2) have had a very strong start to the year, but did lose the final two games of their recent 3 game road trip.  In the most recent game they were shutout by the Kings, losing 1-0.  San Jose on the other hand has been unable to register a goal in either of their previous two games.  Both of these teams have high powered offenses so something has to give in tonights meeting.  Joe Thornton is out due to suspension and this is likely why the Sharks aren’t bigger favourites in this one.  Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley will have to step up offensively to fill the void and the Sharks are a deep enough team to win without big Joe.  The perception of Joe Thornton’s importance to the Sharks has swayed the oddsmakers which is why I feel there is value in betting the Sharks tonight.

My Pick: San Jose Sharks -145

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions November 5

After a busy Thursday night in the NHL, there are another 8 games on tap this evening.  Of these 8 games I have found 2 sharp bets that I like for this evening.

The Calgary Flames travel to Minnesota tonight to take on Martin Havlat and the Wild.  Both teams are battling just outside of a playoff position making this an important game for both squads.

After a strong start to the season the Flames have lost their last 3 games, allowing 15 goals in this span.  Each of these losses came at home so the Flames may be eager to leave the Scotiabank Saddledome to start this 4 game road trip.  Calgary has been a very streaky team this season and they will need an elite Kiprusoff in net tonight along with some team defense that has been missing.

The Wild held the high powered offense of the San Jose Sharks scoreless on Wednesday in a 1-0 win at home.  The Flames are another team that knows how to score goals so the Wild will look to once again shut down a high scoring NHL team.  Nicklas Backstrom played amazing against the Sharks and the Wild would love this to continue into tonights game.  The Wild are (4-3-1) at home this season and they have a history of playing poorly on the road.  Playing so many home games this early in the season it is vital that they put some wins on the board for when they have to make their long road trips later on.  Mikko Koivu has done everything expected of him and is leading the team with 12 points in 11 games.  Look for him, Havlat and Cullen to lead the offense as the Wild try to run up another score on the Flames.

Calgary Flames +105 (Bookmaker.com)
Minnesota Wild -125 (Bookmaker.com)

Minnesota has looked good of late and the Flames have looked very messy giving up a ton of goals.  I’m expecting the streaks to continue tonight with the Wild having home ice advantage.

My Pick: Minnesota Wild -125

The Hurricanes are coming off of a 7-2 thumping of the lowly Islanders on Wednesday night.  They will look to continue this success when the travel to Florida tonight to take on the Panthers.  On that same night the Panthers lost a tight 4-3 decision at home to the Atlanta Thrashers.

The Hurricanes (6-6-0) have not won or lost more than two games in a row this season, with the majority of their games going back and forth between wins and losses.  The ‘Canes will look to stop this trend as they look for a second win in a row tonight.  Jeff Skinner is the Hurricanes leading scorer to this point in the season with 10 points in 12 games.  The 7th overall pick from this years draft has really turned some heads with his skill and speed.

Florida (4-6-0) have been up and down this season as well.  Vokoun started the season off with 2 shutouts in the Panthers first two wins and it seems like for the Panthers to win a game their opposition has to be kept to a goal or less.  Vokoun is an elite goaltender in this league, but asking him to play incredibly every night is a little too much.

Carolina Hurricanes +125 (Bookmaker.com)
Florida Panthers -145 (Bookmaker.com)

Florida are the favourites in this one due to the fact that they are playing at home.  That being said the Hurricanes have a .500 record on the road, while the Panthers also have a .500 record at home.  The Hurricanes will win this game more than 45% of the time, making a wager on the Hurricanes a sharp bet in this one.

My Pick: Carolina Hurricanes +125

Free NHL Picks and Betting Odds November 3

The Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs were at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference last year and the way each team has been playing lately makes it seem that could very well be how they finish again this season.

The Washington Capitals (7-4-0) have looked good through eleven games this season, as expected.  The Capitals are (4-1-0) at home this season and are coming off a 7-2 thumping of the Flames where they really found their offensive legs.  Goaltender Michal Neuvirth was named rookie of the month for September and it looks like he will be the ‘tender the Capitals will be leaning towards throughout the season.  Nicklas Backstrom has finally found his scoring touch after a slump to begin the season with 4 points against the Flames and 6 points in total in the Caps last 3 games.  Everything seems to be going the Capitals way and a home ice bout with the Leafs should be another easy win for the team.

As everyone knows the Maple Leafs won their first 4 games to start the season, but have since only won once in their last 7 games to drop below .500.  The Maple Leafs played a tough game against the Senators last night, losing 3-2, so they will be on short rest as they travel to Washington to take on Ovechkin and the Capitals.  Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf was injured in that game and will likely be out of the lineup tonight.  The Maple Leafs need a win and fast or they risk putting their fast start to waste and taking the same path as last season.

Toronto Maple Leafs +200 (Bookmaker.com)
Washington Capitals -230 (Sportsbook.com)

The Capitals are heavy odds in this game and rightfully so.  The Leafs will need Phil Kessel to get back on the scoreboard in this one and they will also need some depth players to step up and help with scoring if they want an outside shot at winning tonight.

My Pick: Washington Capitals -230

The Nashville Predators (5-2-3) head to Phoenix (3-4-3) tonight to take on the Coyotes.

The Predators were riding high after 8 games, being the only team to have earned a point in every game to that point in the season.  Since then the Preds have lost 2 straight in regulation and have slipped to the basement of the very strong Central division.  The two losses came against the Blues and Red Wings, two Central division rivals who have had very good starts to the season.  The Predators main issue through the last few games of the season has been scoring.  The Preds have only scored 12 goals in their last 7 games and that just won’t cut it against the strong teams in the Western Conference.  The highest scorers on Nashville are Steve Sullivan and Cal O’Reilly each with 7 points in 10 games.  The Predators need to find more production from Dumont, Erat and Hornqvist moving forward.

The Coyotes have a (1-2-2) home record, which they will look to improve this evening.  Phoenix has lost 4 of their last 5 and surprisingly their problem has been goals against throughout those games.  The Coyotes have allowed 17 goals in those 5 games.  Team defense and elite goaltending in Bryzgalov are big parts of Phoenix’s recent success.  They will need to rediscover these keys to victory to win tonight.

Nashville Predators +120 (TheSportsbook.com)
Phoenix Coyotes -135 (Bookmaker.com)

The Coyotes are favourites even though they have not shown an ability to win at home consistently this season.  Both teams are in slumps at the moment, but something has to give tonight.  I see the game going either way, but a wager on the Predators pays out better and I expect them to win 50% of the time, which is better than the 45% win rate needed to place this wager.

My Pick: Nashville Predators +120

The Senators win last night improved the NHL Betting Tips free picks record to (12-4) for +8.81 units.  Check out of free NHL predictions daily to see if we can continue this winning record throughout the season.

Ottawa Senators Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Odds and Predictions November 2

The Senators got off to a very shaky start to the season, but have since started to right the ship, winning 3 of their last 5 games, after winning only 1 of their initial 6.  Brian Elliot isn’t playing tremendously, but he is giving his team a chance to win every night and the Senators seem to play better in front of Elliot than they did in front of Leclaire.  I chalk this up to Elliot being a much solider goalie who will make the saves he’s supposed to make so the players know if they do their job he will do his.  This is opposed to Leclaire who even though he may bail his team out with a spectacular save now and then, will allow soft ones on occassion and pops out many big rebounds.  With Elliot in net I like the Senators chances in most games.

The Maple Leafs are the exact opposite of the Sens.  After getting off to a hot start winning their first 4 games to start the season the Leafs have dropped off of late winning only once in their last 6 games.  This includes 2 scoreless losses in their last outtings against the Bruins and the Rangers.  Toronto has scored only 7 goals in their last 6 games and they will need their offense to start clicking if they are going to have any chance against the Senators.  The Maple Leafs will hope to repeat their 5-1 domination of the Senators from the second game of the season, but that Maple Leafs team seems to have disappeared.  We will see if they can return tonight.

Senators vs Leafs Betting Odds

Ottawa Senators +125 (Bookmaker.com)
Toronto Maple Leafs -140 (Sportsbook.com)

The Maple Leafs are the favourites in this game even though they have lost 5 of their last 6 games and have failed to score a goal in each of their last 2 outtings.  The Leafs did dominate the Senators in the second game of the season, winning by a score of 5-1, but the Senators have begun to turn their season around and should be a much more confident team coming into the game tonight.  The Senators will have had this game marked on the calendar for a few weeks and will come out firing to make up for their horrible performance in the last game against their biggest rivals.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators +125

The NHL Betting Tips prediction record for the season is (11-4) for +7.56 units.  We will be posting what we believe are sharp NHL bets every day so check back often for NHL picks.

Chicago Blackhawks New York Rangers NHL Odds and Predictions November 1

The Chicago Blackhawks head to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers at 7pm this evening.  The Blackhawks and Rangers each come in on two days rest after the Blackhawks won in Minnesota and the Rangers won in Toronto on Saturday.

The Rangers, who are still without star forwards Marian Gaborik, Chris Drury and Vaclav Prospal have gotten off to a (5-4-1) start to the season, which is very respectable considering they have been without several key players in this span.  New York has struggled at home thusfar with a (1-3-1) record through their first 5 home games.  Lundqvist stopped 36 shots in a shutout win over the Leafs on Saturday for his first shutout of the season.  The Rangers will need a similar performance tonight if they have any chance at defeating the defending champions.

The Blackhawks have played the most games of any team in the league (13), which has masked the fact that the team is only 1 game above .500.  The Blackhawks record thusfar in the season is (7-5-1), which isn’t spectacular considering they are the defending champs.  Marian Hossa has been the teams best player to this point in the season, but he is out for two weeks with an upper-body injury.  Dave Bolland also joined the list of injured ‘Hawks on Saturday when he was scratched with a day-to-day upper-body injury.  These are two very important players for the Blackhawks and it will be interesting to see if the team is still deep enough to battle through injuries to key players.  The Blackhawks are (3-1-1) on the road this season.

Blackhawks vs Rangers Odds

Chicago Blackhawks +100 (Bookmaker.com)
New York Rangers -120 (Bookmaker.com)

The Rangers are slight favourites in this game, which can only be due to the fact that the Blackhawks are without Hossa and Bolland.  I’m still surprised at this line considering the Blackhawks have a solid road record and the Rangers have shown difficulty winning at home this season.  Gaborik and Drury are both key ingredients for that team and their forward depth is not strong.  The Blackhawks will win this game much more than 50% of the time making a wager on the Blackhawks a sharp bet this evening.

My Pick: Chicago Blackhawks +100

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions October 30

Saturday’s are always big nights in the NHL and this Saturday is no exception.  28 teams are in action tonight and we have found 2 sharp bets for tonights games that we will share.

Washington Capitals -110 (Bookmaker.com)
Calgary Flames -105 (TheSportsbook.com)

The Washington Capitals visit Calgary tonight in what most Bookmakers have as a pick’em game.  The Capitals lost their last game in Minnesota where Wild goaltender Nicklas Backstrom stood on his head.  The Caps are (6-4-0) this season, but their road record is a subpar (2-3-0).  The Flames have been scoring on command as of late with 21 goals for in their last 4 games.  Even with 5 goals for last game the team lost to the Avalanche who were able to one-up them scoring 6.  The Flames are also (6-4-0) this season with a (4-2-0) home record.  Each team will look to get back to their winning ways tonight.

My Pick: Washington Capitals -110

Over/Under 5.5 -110 (Bookmaker.com)

The Flames and Capitals are two of the highest scoring teams in the league and the Flames have been on a tear of late.  I expect another high score in this one.

My Pick: Over 5.5 -110

Anaheim Ducks (+1.5) -160  (TheSportsbook.com)
San Jose Sharks (-1.5) +145 (Bookmaker.com)

The Ducks have regained some kind of respect within the league after their horrible start to the season.  That being said the Ducks are still (2-5-0) on the road and have allowed the second most goals in the league.  The Ducks have lost 4 of their 11 games this season by more than 2 goals.  The Sharks have had a slow start to the season by their high standards, but have won 3 of their last 4 and it looks like their offense is finally clicking.  The Sharks are only (1-2-1) at home, but of their 4 total wins this season 3 have been by 2 or more goals and the most recent 3 wins have been by large margins.  I expect the Sharks to come out firing and score at least 4 goals against the Ducks tonight.  They should be able to cover the 1.5 goal spread more than 41% of the time against this Ducks team that is weak at the back end.  The physical forwards will be too much to handle and it will result in more chances than Hiller can handle.

My Pick: San Jose Sharks (-1.5) +145

So far this season our NHL Betting Tips free picks record is (8-3) for +5.29 units.  To achieve these results we always apply strong NHL betting strategy to find sharp bets.  Check back daily for more NHL predictions!

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions October 29

Tonight is another busy evening in the NHL with six games taking place.  Last night I went 2 for 3 and tonight I’ve found another 3 sharp bets that I will be sharing with you right here at NHL Betting Tips!

Carolina Hurricanes +115 (Bookmaker.com)
New York Rangers -135 (Bookmaker.com)

When you look at the Rangers lineup you will notice how much their recent injuries have hurt them.  That being said, even with Gaborik, Drury and Prospal out the Rangers have managed to win three of their last four games.  I can’t see them keeping this up without these key players in the lineup.  The Hurricanes, on the other hand, are almost fully healthy and are coming off a home loss at the hands of the Washington Capitals.  That loss was the Hurricanes home opener and the end to a long road trip.  Tonight the ‘Canes are back on the road in New York and I expect them to hit the ice with a renewed energy because they know they need to take advantage of these games against wounded opponents if they hope to make the playoffs.

My Pick: Carolina Hurricanes +115

Montreal Canadiens +110 (Bodog.com)
New York Islanders -125 (Bookmaker.com)

Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens have been very hot of late, but Alex Auld will get the nod in net tonight thanks to a busy week where the Habs play four games in six nights.  Auld definitely isn’t in the same category as Price, but you know he will be ready to go in this one after sitting on the bench for the first nine games of the season.  Markov will still be out of the lineup this game with his expected return coming Saturday against the Panthers.  The Islanders have started well, but they have lost their last two, including a 5-3 loss to the Habs in Montreal on Wednesday.  Looking at their team it was only a matter of time before the Islanders once again returned to their losing ways and begin to slide down the standings.  Tonight I expect a third consecutive loss for the Isles.

My Pick: Montreal Canadiens +110

Philadelphia Flyers +125 (Bookmaker.com)
Pittsburgh Penguins -140 (Sportsbook.com)

The Penguins are coming off two straight road losses and should be excited to be heading home where it seems they are getting the hang of the new building having won their last two games at the Consol Energy Center.  Philadelphia beat the Penguins 3-2 the last time the two teams played in Pittsburgh, but the Penguins came back with the a 5-1 shellacking in Philly a few nights later.  Tonight the game could go either way, but the Flyers will win more than 44.4% of the time making a wager on the Flyers positive expected value.

My Pick: Philadelphia Flyers +125

The NHL Betting Tips picks record so far this season is (5-3) for +1.79 units.  Check back daily for more NHL predictions.

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions October 28th

While looking at various NHL betting lines today I found several sharp bets for this evenings games.  This post will quickly outline three strong picks for tonights games.

Florida Panthers +120 (Bookmaker.com)
Ottawa Senators -130 (TheSportsbook.com)

The Panthers are coming off a loss in Toronto two nights ago, while the Senators are coming off an impressive win over the Coyotes on the same night.  This is still gutcheck time for the Senators who have gotten off their worst start in several years.  The Sens have still yet to string together consecutive wins this season so they will be coming hard tonight knowing that these are the type of games they must win in order to turn their season around.  The Panthers started Clemmensen in Toronto on Thursday, so Vokoun should be back where he belongs tonight.  Vokoun is an elite goaltender who gives the Panthers a chance to win every night.  The only way I see the Panthers pulling this one out is if Vokoun is able to hold Ottawa to 2 or fewer goals for.

My Pick: Ottawa Senators -130

St Louis Blues +100 (Bookmaker.com)
Nashville Predators -120 (Bookmaker.com)

The Blues and Preds are both hot of late having each won their last two games.  The Predators are still the only team in the NHL who have yet to be defeated in regulation.  There three overtime/shootout defeats though have come at home.  That being said the Blues have yet to win on the road this season, while being perfect at home.  The Predators have been playing great hockey and I expect that to continue tonight.  Each team has been on long breaks (4 or 5 days) so expect the action to be fierce with everyone having their legs under them the entire game.

My Pick: Nashville Predators -120

Edmonton Oilers +145 (Bookmaker.com)
Columbus Blue Jackets -160 (Sportsbook.com)

The Oilers are once again the worst team in the NHL and that should continue throughout the season.  After starting the season with two wins, the Oilers have lost their last five and have not looked good giving up 24 goals in that span.  I’m expecting only about 25 wins for the Oilers this season so I will often be betting against them if the line is right.  The Blue Jackets have won four of their last five and are likely licking their lips at the prospect of taking on the NHL’s worst.  This is the perfect game for the Blue Jackets stars (Nash 4 pts, Huselius 5 pts, Vermette 4 pts) to get on the scoresheet and build some confidence moving into the second month of the season.

My Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets -160

The NHL Betting Tips prediction record so far this season is (3-2) for +1.39 units.  Check out our NHL picks page for new NHL prediction posts every day.
